AUCTION AND THANK YOU RECAP
The Silent Auction raised over $5,000
thanks to generous members
and the Anheuser-Busch Tour Center!
The Saint Louis Attraction Association’s Silent Auction
on Wednesday, November 16th at the Anheuser-Busch
Tour Center was a fun evening and we raised over
$5,000! The event was successful because of you…our
wonderful members who donated unique auction items.
Thank you!
We would also like to
extend a very special
thank you to our
friends Glenn Cox,
Kendra Wessel and
Debbie McGuire at
Anheuser-Busch, Inc. and Cheryl Haney with Classic
Fare Catering. They were all extremely accommodating
and a pleasure to work with on the event. The special
touches were especially
appreciated including the
ice cold beverages, 25%
off in the gift shop and of
course…Matt, the
Clydesdale, who made a
special appearance just
for SLAA. Their time and
generosity hosting our
event was much
appreciated, they made it
easy and fun!
And every successful event has great volunteers.
Thank you to the Silent Auction committee members:
Renee Famula, our
graphic artist who we
couldn’t have done it
without, Ronda
Mertens, Ethan

SPOTLIGHT
The St. Louis Holocaust Museum
and Learning Center
The St. Louis Holocaust Museum and
Learning Center (HMLC) honors
survivors who resettled in St. Louis and
presents exhibitions that chronicle a
horrific and painful time in history, the
Holocaust, the systematic persecution
and murder of about 6 million Jews by
the Nazis.
The Museum, a department of Jewish Federation of
St. Louis, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It is
only one of two comprehensive Holocaust museums in the
Midwest. It houses a 5,000 square-foot core permanent
exhibition that provides a chronological history of the
Holocaust augmented with personal accounts of survivors,
many of whom lived in the Lodz Ghetto of Poland and
resettled in St. Louis.
Photographs, artifacts, text panels,
audio-visual displays guide visitors
through pre-war Jewish life in Europe,
the rise of Nazism, events during the
Holocaust from 1933-1945 and post-war
events including the Nuremberg Trials
and Jewish life after the Holocaust.
Nationally, the St. Louis Museum is one
of less than 20 museums dedicated to
the history and lessons of the Holocaust.
Some 30,000 visitors and educators, including 25,000
students from 350 school groups, visit the Museum each
year. This includes 1,000 students from St. Louis City
schools, who were provided with transportation from a
special fund.
The Museum, located at 12 Millstone Campus Drive in the
Federation Kopolow Building in Creve Coeur, is open year
round. Hours are 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday;
9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, closed on Saturday, and
open Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Admittance and all
programs are free and open to the public. For more details,
call (314) 442-3711 or visit www.hmlc.org.

LOUIS CONVENTION & VISITORS COMMISSION UPDATE
Shelby Gebauer
Carole Moody Announces Retirement
After 30 years of service, Carole Moody, CVC President, recently announced her retirement. Carole took over as
President during a nationwide industry downturn after the events of September 2001, and has led the CVC to achieve
significant successes since then including:
- The number of hotel room nights occupied by leisure visitors and their direct spending, as a result of the CVC’s
marketing efforts, increased from 916,000 and $548.1 million, respectively, in 2002 to 1.47 million and $655.6
million, respectively, in 2004.
- Meeting and convention bookings by the CVC for future years increased from 348,375 room nights in fiscal year
2002 to 415,134 in fiscal year 2005.
Carole is looking forward to spending more time traveling, visiting family and learning to play the piano. Her retirement
date is set for March 1, 2006, but she intends to carry on the duties of president while a nation-wide search is conducted
for her replacement.
Great St. Louis Getaways Guide
Twenty-eight member hotels are selling special packages in the CVC's January-April 2006 Great St. Louis Getaways
Guide. The hotel packages directory and calendar of events brochure was mailed to 210,000 households within a 100-
400 mile radius of St. Louis and the packages are promoted in the regional and national media. Package categories
include value-added offerings for couples, families, girlfriends, sports fans, casino players, shoppers and arts & culture
lovers. Visitors can buy their packages online at www.ExploreStLouis.com or through the CVC's toll-free telephone
system.
Skating Promotions
St. Louis is getting ready to welcome skaters and skating fans in January. The State Farm U.S. Figure Skating
Championships are on their way. To help promote out of town attendance at the prestigious events, the CVC sent an
e-postcard to its consumer database and the event is prominently featured in the January-April edition of the Great St.
Louis Getaways direct mail brochure. The CVC also is running a skating contest on the www.ExploreStLouis.com website along with radio promotions in target markets across the Midwest.
New Sales Staff in Chicago and DC Sales Offices
The CVC is pleased to announce the addition of two new sales staff members to the convention sales team.
Anna Vuckovic has been hired as the CVC's national convention sales manager for the Washington, D.C. office. Anna
comes to the CVC from the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau where she represented that city in the
